Hope everyone has had a fab Christmas! I know I have. What made it even more perfect for me is that it snowed on Boxing Day and I don't just mean a thin layer, it was actually quite thick! Its still lying around today although it has thawed and refrozen a few times so it's not soft and fluffy anymore! However most of the non-main roads are still like an ice rink.
I have a love/hate relationship with snow. I love the first couple of days after it has snowed but then it starts to irritate me when it's no longer fresh and walking on icy snow is a mission! (Particularly in heels which I experienced the other night).
I was unhappy about the fact that it was snowing at first as I was meant to be going out. When I started to get ready, not one flake of snow was falling from the sky. After I had finished getting ready which was 2 hours later, a thick blanket of snow had covered the surrounding area! I knew that it was supposed to snow after checking the forecast but with it being England, I thought it wouldn't settle on the ground and would just end up turning into rain and the snow getting washed away but no I was wrong!
So instead of going out, I went on a snowy winter walk with my cousin which finally made me feel all Christmassy! It was nice to see all the kids playing out in the snow as we walked - proof that nature can be better than toys and games consoles!
The day after, the snow was still here so me and my brother decided to spend the morning making a snowman, we're just big kids in reality! The snow was quite hard as it was no longer fresh so building a snowman proved to be more difficult than I thought it would be. The traditional way of making a snowman by making a small ball and then rolling it around so that more snow would stick to it proved to not work. Instead we had to use a shovel to scrape up the snow and pat down the snow into heaps in order to get the body. This probably took longer than the traditional way of making a snowman but it actually turned out to be quite successful!

Excuse my lack of makeup! |
I personally think we did quite well with the snowman! Complete with buttons, eyes, a carrot nose, my tartan scarf, my brother's bobble hat and sticks for arms (that we broke off one of our bushes so my dad wasn't too happy about it!), I thought it looked quite the part. I wish I had made good use of the fresh snow and gone sledging. I used to love going sledging as a youngster, I think I'm secretly a bit of an adrenaline junkie. We live near a hill which is particularly good in the snow as when we were younger, a big group of us used to sit on a massive sheet and sledge down the hill, what an adrenaline rush that was! I felt a little too old to be sledging this year and with my brother recovering from a broken ankle, I wasn't persuaded by him as he is of course not allowed to do strenuous or dangerous-like activity yet.
I'm hoping there's no more snow forecast before I head up back to Newcastle in just under a week to sit my exams (my first couple of weeks of 2015 are gonna be so much fun I can already tell!) I already had enough hassle making my way back home for Christmas with the trains!
Were you lucky enough to get snow this Christmas? Do you love or hate snow? What do you like to do in the snow?
