MINI GUIDE: EYEBROWS TO FLATTER THE SHAPE OF YOUR FACE

Eyebrows are an important aspect of life (to me anyway). Thick or thin, tweezed or threaded, bleached or dyed, eyebrows can further enhance your natural facial features if the shape is right for your face. However, if your eyebrows aren't an appropriate shape for your face then your whole look could be ruined and no one wants that! It took me a long time to actually get the perfect eyebrow shape so hopefully my mini guide will help if you're confused about what to do with your eyebrows! To determine what shape your eyebrows should be, you first need to know what the shape of your face is.

There are 6 common face shapes. Oval, long, round, square, heart and diamond. Each shape is based on the proportions of the forehead, cheekbones and jawline as well as the width and length of your face.

Oval
A person with a wider forehead compared to a smaller and round chin with prominent cheekbones is said to have an oval face. Cameron Diaz has a typical oval shape. People with oval faces have one of the easiest and widest options when it comes to eyebrow shape as generally any eyebrow shape can suit this face shape, lucky for you oval-shaped faces out there! The aim of brows for an oval-shaped face is to maintain this shape. Usually a soft angled eyebrow would be the absolute perfect shape for an oval face.

Long
A long face typically has the features of a long chin and forehead. The aim of eyebrows here is to make the face appear shorter. Sarah Jessica Parker is the perfect example of someone with a long face. Flatter, more straighter eyebrows or a very low arched brow would be perfect for this shaped face as it will widen the face, giving the illusion of a shorter in-length face.

Round
Someone with a round face means the length and width of the face is about the same size, with the widest part of the face at the cheeks. I unfortunately have this face. My boyfriend has even compared the shape of my round face to a ball, how rude! The aim of brows here is make the face appear longer which will help to thin out the face. To do this, a high arched eyebrow should be the option as this will make a vertical counterpoint on the face, helping the eyes to open up. Fearne Cotton is a celebrity with a round face.

Square
A square face is indicated by the forehead, cheeks and jawline to be of the same width, with a very square and angular jaw. A slightly raised arch for brows will help to soften the jawline which is the aim of brows for someone with a square face. It is better to have thicker rather than thinner eyebrows with a square face with the angle of the brow in line with the widest part of the jaw. Keira Knightley is the perfect example of someone with a square face.

Heart
Someone with a heart-shaped face would have a strongly tapered and pointy chin with a broader forehead. The aim of the shape of the brows for someone with a heart-shaped face is to soften the chin. Reese Witherspoon is an example of a celebrity with a heart-shaped face. The brows shouldn't be too thick or too thin and should be slightly curved to help give the illusion of a softer-shaped chin.

Diamond
A diamond face is indicated by an angular and bony jaw, with the widest part of the face at the temples. Curved eyebrows will help slim the face at the temples which is the aim of eyebrows for someone with a diamond-shaped face. Scarlett Johansson is the perfect example here.

Below is an example of an eyebrow shape for each individual face shape.
